wouldn’t you agree?  i think yes!  so for all you gtkc members, you’ve had a chance to dig through the goodies and tonight, i’m going to share a couple of my favorite ways to use my favorite july item and of course the giveaways :]

for those of you who are new on the block…we are doing a weekly blog party and we’ll be giving away two of our super fabulous kits (over $50 worth of awesome stuff) and all you have to do is find the blog party question of the day, answer the question in our comments section and we’ll pick 2 lucky winners at random tomorrow night.  too good to be true?  no says i!

alright, don’t laugh but i’m really new to the whole taking pictures as i make stuff so it was a hot mess and i had to deconstruct a few things to back track, haha!  it all worked out in the end so here we go!

here’s what you’ll need for the first technique:

img_1949

versamark, clear embossing powder, heat gun, stamp (i used a little circle) and of course your mini mister & re-inker (from the july kit).

so, first thing you want to do is stamp your image onto your paper using the versamark ink…i like repetition and am a firm believer that one of anything is just simply not enough.  now cover the stamped images with clear embossing powder, tap off excess and heat it up.  here’s mine:

fill your mini mister a little over the halfway point with water, add several drops of ink to it and shake.  for this part, i started with 5 drops and it was still pretty light for my liking so i bumped it up to about 20 drops when it was all said and done, lol.  more is more people.

once you have the right ratio to suit your personal taste, spray over the embossed images (it’s a super awesome idea to spray on a craft mat or wax paper or something - things get a little sketchy if you choose to go rambo with it, trust)  wipe the ink off of the embossed part, you don’t have to worry about anything smearing because it soaks in to the cardstock pretty fast.  here’s what it looks like after…

img_1954

ok, now one more technique that i learned from our very own miss lauren… so it’s a masking technique where you use the mask to make a mat for your photo.  fun right?  here’s what you’ll need for this one…

img_1942

removable adhesive (which i don’t have so i just used a dot n’roller which worked beautifully), circle punches in assorted sizes, and your mister & ink.  so start by cutting a mat mask out of a seperate piece of cardstock- the size will depend on the size of your photo (mine is only 3.25 x 3.25 inches) and i didn’t want a huge mat so i just cut mine 1/4 inch larger than my photo (3.5 x 3.5 inches.  punch some circles while you’re at it, i like the look of rings so i punched circles out of circles if that makes sense?  haha, you’ll see what i mean…

using a tiny bit of adhesive, i gently stuck the elements in place (you’ll have to pull them back off so you don’t want them too stuck).  once everything is placed just so, start spraying…i had a little too much fun, nothing a little steam cleaner won’t fix- hopefully.  oh yeah, and it’s also fun just to use the dropper from the re-inker and make huge splats everywhere too.  just try it, you might like it :]  here’s what it looks like now…

next step after peeling the masks off, add the pic and embellishments…

now, as promised, the blog party question!!!

do you like to get your hands dirty while scrapbooking?  if so, how?  what’s your favorite messy technique?  spill!!!!

alright so let’s meet back here around 7-ish tomorrow for a little winner action, yes?  ok, it’s a date friends!  see you soon!

  2. rebecca k says:

I love stamping and inking and I also love painting with crackle paint!

  3. cjs says:

Thank you for the tutorials Kinsey - keep ‘em coming! As for getting my hands dirty….um no….sorry, I’m a neat freak! Baby wipes next to me at all times…best invention of all time :)

  4. Shawn Wenrich says:

I adore glimmer mist, messy which I hate but the effect is worth it!

  5. Tanis says:

OH YES, I love getting grungy.
Just finished washing some paint off my hands before bedtime :)
Spray is the very next item on my list. I’m not sure what kind I”ll get, but I LOVE the results…VERY cool what you’ve done on this page.

  6. Victoria S. says:

OOOHH i love that page with the masking - will have to remember that, plus i love circles! I dont like to get messy but it is inevitable - i do like to emboss and use paint tho.

  7. I love a good misting with my glimmer mists. But now that you showed me this new technique I’m about to get even messier. Yipee!!!!!

  8. mj says:

i don’t get too messy…takes too much time! but when duty calls…paint it is. and I hope i win.

  9. Christine says:

I’m not too messy, but I do ink the edges sometimes (which inevitably gets on my hands).

  10. Bailey B. says:

Um, yeah. I can get a little messy. But I think it’s because I’m 10. Not because I’m doing all sorts of cool techniques. Although I’m up to try new things, for sure. I need to learn to be more thrifty. You know … when I punch a few circles from a full sheet of 12×12 paper, and then call it good? Yeah. My mom doesn’t like that so much. Hope I win!

  11. Bekka says:

This is such a great technique! I simply love getting messy with paint. :)

  12. ruth tacoma says:

I’m not really a messy kind of girl……sorry. I’m trying though. Doing some inking techniques like this one. :)

  13. laurapip says:

Inking! By the time I am done it is EVERYWHERE! :-)

  14. ShellyJ says:

OK. I have to admit it, I am not a dirty girl when I scrap ;) I always enjoy looking at other people’s creations, but for me, I just don’t like cleaning up the mess!

  15. AngieL says:

I’m not really a messy kind of gal, but I really love what you did in the example you showed so maybe I’ll give it a try. Thanks for the inspiration and the chance to win.

  16. conniemelancon says:

thanks for the tutorial. Dirty and messy scrapper here! I have to get up several times to wash the ink off my hands so I don’t smear it on the rest of my LO!

  17. shari walker says:

I love painting my chipboard with different paints, the bigger the mess, the happpier I am…

  18. Judy G says:

yep, sure like the messy fun. Paint is so versatile … I love to combine it with stamping.

  19. Thinkie says:

LOL, I have often wondered if I was the only adult paying in stores with hands coloured in all kind of colours because of using ink and pens that won’t wash off ;-) But the moment I get really messy is when I get out my acryllic paints! My table has a few splats here and there to show for it, fortunately I have gotten it out of *most* of my clothes ;-) I think my favorite technique that will get my hands dirty is inking edges of things.

  20. JPScraps says:

I’m fairly neat only because I’m afraid to try the inking techniques. I stamp, paint and ink the edges…that’s my limit.

  21. Rhonda B. says:

I love using several layers ultra thick clear embossing powder over a stamped image, popping it in the freezer, and bending it to make it look like cracked glass. That thick stuff likes to fly when you heat it though. Messy, but worth it.

  22. Julie says:

I get messing using paints and rubber stamping! Always get the ink on my hands! Love the circles layout - that is such a great idea!

  23. Jennifer says:

Yup, love the messy part. Hate the clean-up! I’m a glimmer mist girl, can’t wait to get my hands misty with these techniques! Thanks a bunch!!!!!

  24. Jingle says:

I love to use Glimmer Mist and paints and such on my layouts! My hands are often quite well inked after a good chunk of time in my scrapbook room!

  25. Jori says:

I love to use inks and glitter sticks…and everything that I played with as a little kid, but I always have a container of wet ones handy…I don’t want to accidently touch an area of my layout that I didn’t want all that messy stuff!!!

  26. Phyllis says:

I am a messy scrapper–I love inks and paints on my pages, of course the ink and paint is everywhere else too.

  27. Shana says:

Inks are about as messy as I get (I’m messy in other ways!). But I love what was done in this post and am intrigued to try it!

  28. Julie, momto7 says:

ummm, no? but if my hands ARE messy, it’s from stamping…the little that I do.

  29. Andrea says:

I’ll sometimes cover chipboard or some sort of embellishment with glue and then glitter, but I don’t do it too often because the glitter seems to get everywhere!

  30. Karin says:

I’m with JPScraps although I have started to change the color of my chipboard and alphabet stickers with inks. Nothing ever seems to be the color I want and I have so much stuff, so althering is the way to go.

  31. Cindy D says:

Yes I like to get messy. Let’s just say….paint paint and more paint!!

  32. Nicole says:

Messy? No I think not. Only when my son joins in the stamping fun. But you are giving me something to think about with this technique — just have the baby wipes on standby.

  33. Felicia Young says:

Oh yeah! Glitter mess is always fun because it just gets everywhere! I love it!

  34. I get messing anytime I scrapbook. I love stamping so that would be what makes the BIGGEST mess. I always end up with it all over me.

  35. ninam says:

Kinsey, it was great getting to meet you in the store the other day. :) Your techniques are so fun thanks for the tips you guys are always giving us. We love stickles and chalk inks in our house. Of course we wear them for a while afterwards.

  36. Carol says:

i like inking and misting! its good dirty fun :P

  37. Kim M says:

I love the technique, I am sooo not a messy scrapper, my OCD side won’t let me!

  38. Charmi says:

I really liked your tips & techniques, thanks for sharing ! I love painting..on canvases & l/os & getting paints in my nails !! I recently tried the glimmer mists..& really liked them..but still need to get hang of it !!

  39. Ramintessah says:

I love getting my hands dirty!hehehe! My fave medium is paint and mist! Really love misting/painting and distressing with inks/paints.Stamping with acrylic paint is a cool technique too.

  40. Patricia says:

Thanks so much for the techniques! My favorite would be playing with stickles. They don’t sound too messy but I manage to get them all over my hands and table!

  41. Karen says:

Nope, I hate getting my hands messy. It’s hard enough for me to keep the adhesive off of he photos. Inking things is as messy as I get!

  42. Patti Martin says:

Ink is my favorite messy thing to use. Distressing with ink gets my hands messy and my work mat messy. And I love the smell of ink…

    Hugs,

    PattiM

  43. Cass says:

I’m a clean girl. I own paints and inks, but rarely use them as I can’t handle the mess. Perhaps I should get them out again…

  44. TamiV says:

Add me to the clean girls!!! On occassion I will use a little acrylic paint with a stencil or foam stamp, but for the most part, the only mess I leave behind is paper scraps!

  45. Stormy E says:

i love to get messy! lately i’ve been misting and using masks a lot, before that it was paint!

  46. Jing-Jing says:

I’m good with getting messy. I use glitter quite a bit, that’s really messy. I also use glimmer mists, and that can get out of control messy, lol.

  47. -crystal says:

thanks for the tutorial! i’m trying tonight!

do i like getting dirty with scrapbooking….YES! stamping always gets me messy and my hubby always finds a place on me that i didn’t even know got close to INK! :)

  48. gadget gal says:

add perfect pearls to the first technique and you have your homemade glimmer mist.
